Laugh at Yourself

I had a busy day today, but I wanted to get one simple message out there.  Learn to laugh at yourself.  That one habit will create more life & growth opportunities, I promise.

Today I met this bad boy: the Octane ZR8 Zero Runner.  I’m always on the lookout for new 0g runners.  I hurt my back in an obstacle course and these are all I can do without getting nerve pain all down my leg.  Besides, this one looked awesome.

Ready to meet my new friend, I stepped in a pedal and nearly fell on my butt.  I stepped in again holding the movable handles, genius me, and almost face planted into the machine. Feeling like a right idiot I went for round three and I made it only to grab the arms a millisecond later.  Those foot things are entirely loose and no joke.  I realized how absurd I looked and that if someone was thinking of it that I would probably be on YouTube or CoCoScope within the day.   It was a mini-moment of embarrassment, then I laughed.

I kept laughing softly to myself, it was too ridiculous.  The laughter broke my thought circles of feeling like an idiot, or unfit, or all those other little demons that hang out in our brains.  It gave me the wherewithal to get right back on, successfully this time.  The pedals took getting used to, but then I was off & running for 40 minutes with no pain.  Success!

This is minor, but think of all the times you didn’t do something because of the potential to be humiliated.  Try to see the funny, it will help to branch out, and the endorphins from laughter can’t hurt.
